Summer Series 2022-3 Part 1: George Brandis, Nicolle Flint, & Anne Henderson

This first episode features the keynote address delivered by the Honourable George Brandis KC, Nicolle Flint’s paper on ‘Menzies’s Miracle? George Brandis KC is a former Attorney-General and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and has recently become a Professor in the Practice of National Security at the National Security College in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. A long-time politician, Professor Brandis was a minister in three governments. During his time in the Australian Parliament, Professor Brandis served as a Senator for Queensland between 2000 and 2018. He served as Attorney-General from 2013-2017. He also served as a member of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security and as Leader of the Government in the Senate. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Civil Law from Magdalen College, Oxford.

Nicolle Flint was elected to the federal Parliament in 2016 as the Member for Boothby (Adelaide, South Australia), and at the 2022 federal election. She has worked as a newspaper columnist for Fairfax and News Corp, as a policy adviser for state and federal Liberal Leaders, and as a policy adviser at the Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Nicolle is a member of the Liberal Party of Australia (SA Division) and has held a range of voluntary positions. She has served on the South Australian State Executive, State Council, as Chairman – Rural and Regional Council, President – Women’s Council, as well as the federal Rural and Regional Council Executive, and federal Women’s Council Executive. She has co-authored 3 editions of Gender & Politics about women in the Liberal Party, with Nick Cater, for the Menzies Research Centre. She holds a Law Degree and Arts Degree (1st Class Hons).

Anne Henderson AM is the Deputy Director of the Sydney Institute. She is a prolific and respected author, having published books on Enid Lyons, Joseph Lyons, Mary Mackillop, Patrick Glynn and more. In 2014 she published Menzies at War, a detailed account of Menzies’s years in the political wilderness between his two stints as prime minister, which was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for History.
