Robert Menzies visited Malta on his way to the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference in London. He arrived on the liner ‘Arcadia’ and was greeted by the premier of Malta, Dom Mintoff. Day-long celebrations were arranged in honour of Menzies and Dame Pattie. Menzies was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta.
