The United Australia Party was formed in 1931 by former members of the Labor Party, the Nationalist Party and popular movements including the All for Australia League. J.A. Lyons, the former Labor federal treasurer, was appointed inaugural leader. The UAP dissolved upon the formation of the Liberal Party in 1945.
