Harry S. Truman was US Democratic politician and thirty-third president of the United States (1945-52). As president, he made the decision to drop the atom bomb on Japan and was responsible for the involvement of the USA in the Korean War. In international affairs, the ‘Truman Doctrine’ enacted a policy of containment towards the Soviet Union, thereby assisting countries that resisted communism.
