Bookplate inserted; inscribed on front endpaper in black ink: “R.G.M., B.U., A.A.U. [A. Andrewes Uthwatt, Master of the Moots] 1936”. Also includes two flyers in the back, advertising moot to be held in Gray’s Inn Hall, 22 April 1936. The invitation reads: “Gray’s Inn Moot Society: Master of the Moots : A. Andrewes Uthwatt, Esq. A Moot will be held in Gray’s Inn Hall On Wednesday, the 22nd of April, 1936, at 8.30 p.m. Before Master the Hon. R. G. Menzies, K.C., M.P. (Attorney-General of the Commonwealth of Australia). X a widower dies intestate in 1934 leaving him surviving an infant son A (born in 1931) and a brother B who is of full age. X leaves no other relatives. In 1935 B murders A and is convicted and hanged. The personal representatives of B claim that they are entitled to X’s estate. The Attorney-General on behalf of the Crown claims that the estate is bona vacantia. In the Court of first instance judgment is given for the Crown. This judgment is reversed in the Court of Appeal. The Crown by leave appeals to the House of Lord. cf. Administration of Estates Act 1925 Sects. 46 and 47. Re Sigsworth [1935] 1 Ch. 89. All Members of the four Inns of Court are invited to attend. Two Counsel will be heard for each of the parties”. On the second invitation Menzies has noted in black pen: “Appeal dismissed. Each party to abide his own costs. Robert Menzies”
