Throughout his time at the University of Melbourne Robert Menzies was a prolific contributor to the Melbourne University Magazine, eventually becoming editor in 1916. These magazines offer a rare glimpse into his young adult years during which Menzies learned how to articulate his opinions with clarity and conviction. The pages on display include one of Menzies first published poems, De-Natura, signed with initials ‘- R.G.M.’ Many future volumes in which he contributed offer small verses of his own poetry. Although the poems are somewhat derivative, they showcase his budding interest in expressing life’s tumultuous nature in prose and rhyme.
