Sydney George Ure Smith was a publisher and artist. He pioneered the use of high-quality printing techniques and published the influential periodicals Art in Australia (1916-42) and Home (1920-42). Smith was a trustee of the National Art Gallery of New South Wales (1927-47; vice-president, 1943-47). A friend of Menzies, Ure Smith was vice-president of the Australian Academy of Art.
