Hugh Stevenson Roberton was a farmer, politician, ambassador and writer. Elected member for Riverina (New South Wales) for the Country Party, Roberton served in the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1965. He was Minister for Social Services from 1956 to 1965. Roberton was appointed Australia’s first ambassador to Ireland (1965-68). He wrote journalism and short stories under the pseudonym ‘Peter Snodgrass’.
