Pattie Maie Menzies was the wife of Robert Menzies. Born Pattie Maie Leckie, she married Menzies on 27 September 1920. Pattie was daughter of John William Leckie (1872-1947), who served in Menzies’ first cabinet. She was a strong supporter of her husband’s political career. Pattie was made Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire in 1954. After Menzies’ death in 1978, she continued to support a range of organisations and causes. In 1992 Pattie Menzies moved to Canberra to live with her daughter.
