Copy specific notes
Includes two loose cards affixed to front endpaper inscribed in blue ink: first: “4 Robinson Rd. Hawthorn 3122. 6 / 7 / 74; Dear Sir Robert. Firstly this note does not call for a reply & its reason is that I am [indecipherable] herewith a book by C. L. Mowat in this series “Clarendon Biographies” about the late Lloyd George. As you may know biographies have always been my favourite reading from the house. Brothers to our own Sir Don + as I was in London with my parents awing the General [indecipherable] in 1926 I have retained an interest in political figures + recently this book was a bargain. (+ I can’t resist book bargains) It cost 49 cents! May I close by once again wishing you and Dame Pattie very good health. Faithfully Yours, Grace Stevens.”; and second: “12 July 1914. 4 Robinson Rd. Hawthorn. Dear Sir Robert. As books seem to be disappearing (or have until I have the front door lock adjusted) I have been sending what I think are valuable ones to friends + [indecipherable] associates + I have just realised I’m still holding the enclosed. I hope you’ll accept it with my many best wishes there’s no mention of events in the [indecipherable]. Faithfully Yours Grace Stevens.” Front endpaper also signed in blue ink: “Grace Stevens 6 / 6 / 74”; and underneath written in pencil: “tort 30 / 6 / 74: “a legal term for any wrong or injury to a person or property”; and written in pen alongside: “you have been having difficulty with neighbours + their visitors. G. S.”
