John William Leckie was a manufacturer, politician and father-in-law of Robert Menzies. Leckie was elected member for Indi (Victoria) for the Nationalist Party from 1917 to 1919. He was senator for Victoria (1935-47) representing the United Australia Party and Liberal Party. In the first Menzies government he was minister without portfolio assisting the minister for trade and customs, minister without portfolio assisting the minister for labour and national service (1940-41), minister assisting the minister for munitions (1941) and minister for aircraft production (1941). John William Leckie was the father of Dame Pattie Menzies.
