Harold Edward Holt was an Australian prime minister. He was member for Fawkner (Victoria) for the United Australia Party/Liberal Party from 1935 to 1949 and Higgins (Victoria) from 1949 to 1967 for the Liberal Party. Holt served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1967 after the retirement of Robert Menzies. He was Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research (1940-41), Minister for Labour and National Service (1940-41 and 1949-58), Minister for Immigration (1949-56) and Treasurer (1958-66). Holt disappeared on 17 December 1967 while swimming at Cheviot Beach, Victoria.
