Lord Gowrie, Sir Alexander Gore Arkwright Hore-Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie was a soldier, governor-general of Australia (1936-1945), governor of South Australia (1928-1934), and governor of New South Wales (1935-1936). He was born in 1872 at Windsor, England. He married Zara Eileen Pollok (1879-1965) on 1 June 1908 at St George’s, Hanover Square, London.
