Herbert William (Bert) Gepp was a mining metallurgist, manager, public servant, industrialist and publicist. He was born in 1877 in Adelaide, South Australia. In 1917 Gepp became general manager of the Electrolytic Zinc Company of Australasia Ltd. In 1924 he was elected president of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Gepp became a Commonwealth public servant in 1926 and was appointed chairman of the Development and Migration Commission. In 1934 he became director of the North Australian Aerial Geological and Geophysical Survey and from 1942 to 1945 served as chairman of the Central Cargo Control Committee.
