(Robert) Anthony Eden was a British politician and prime minister of Great Britain. Eden entered parliament as a Conservative member 1923 and was foreign secretary (1935-38) in Neville Chamberlain’s government. He resigned in opposition to Chamberlain’s appeasement policy. In the first Churchill government Eden was dominions secretary (1940), war secretary (1940) and foreign secretary (1940-45). He also served as foreign secretary (1951-55) in the second Churchill government. Eden was prime minister (1955-57). He resigned from parliament following the Suez crisis 1956. He received an earldom in 1961 and published three volumes of memoirs (1960-66).
