Maie Casey was a writer and artist. Born Ethel Marian Sumner Ryan, she married R.G. Casey June 1926. A woman of bohemian sensibilities, she befriended Australian modernists and wrote poetry, biography, reminiscences and historical studies. Ambitious for her husband’s political career, she was dubbed ‘Lady Macbeth’ by Menzies.
