Joseph Terence (Joe) Burke was an art historian and academic. Born in England, he was educated at the University of London, the Courtauld Institute of Art and Yale University. In 1946 he accepted the post of Herald Chair of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne. He was Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 1950 to 1954.
