Norman Everard Brookes was a tennis-player and businessman. He won the Wimbledon men’s singles and doubles in 1907 and 1914. Brookes was a member of the Australian Davis Cup team, winning that tournament in 1907, 1908, 1909 and 1911. He served with the Red Cross in World War I. After the war, he won numerous championships in Australia, Europe and the United States. Brookes was president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Victoria (1925-37) and president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia (1926-54). He was a director of several companies and a partner in the family pastoral firm, William Brookes & Co.
