The Advisory War Council (AWC) was established in 1940. Made up of representatives from all major political parties, the AWC was intended to strengthen Australia’s war effort. Robert Menzies was sworn in as a member of the AWC on 29 October 1940 and resigned (with fellow-member Billy Hughes) in 1944. The council was disbanded in 1945.
